Announcing a separation of Photos from Google+, the search engine giant has finally introduced a standalone service called Google Photos. The announcement was made at Google I/O 2015 developer conference. Google has clarified that Google Photos should not be mistaken as just a spin off Google+. Instead, a host of new features have been added to the service along with unlimited cloud storage support. The service is poised to compete with the likes of Flickr, Dropbox or Amazon.

Google has also released a refreshed Photos app for Android and iOS platform. Like always, Google Photos will remain the main imaging app on Nexus, along with other Android devices that do not offer the AOSP Gallery app or OEM-developed gallery replacements.

Google Photos is available photos.google.com and it can be used to store videos as well, apart from the images.

Have a look at the key features of Google Photos:

* Backup and store unlimited, high-quality photos and videos, for free (upto 16MP for photos, and 1080p for videos)
* Better organization, no need to tag or create albums
* Enhanced search
* One tap instant adjustments to make images better
* Create your own collages, animations, movies with soundtracks, and more
* Assistant view: Get suggestions to make things with your images and videos, such as a collage or a story based on a recent trip you took
