After Apple released Siri, Microsoft brought its own voice assistant Cortana last year. While Cortana is still restricted to Windows Phone models, a group of Italian hackers have managed to extend it on Android. Incidentally, Cortana is named after the Al companion from the Halo video game series. However, to see Cortana on the Android device, the user needs to be connected to the Internet.

The industrious hackers confessed that the project isn't as remarkable as the original and currently the assistant, dubbed Portana, can speak only Italian.

Moreover, as the device should be online for the program to communicate with Microsoft's back-end servers, it can't be used to integrate with Android features like the original version as per a report by Slash Gear.

Calling themselves OrangeSec, the hackers demoed their creation at Droidcon 2015. Also, they used a combination of hardware proxies, custom SSL certificates and DNS spoofing. Meanwhile, Microsoft intends to bring the real Cortana to other platforms later this year with the launch of its upcoming Windows 10 OS.
